Free College Course on Classic Children’s Literature

Many of us include classic book readings in our homeschools. Some of us use literature as the primary base of our homeschool. It’s a beautiful way to learn; it’s what we do in our family’s homeschool.

I found a free college course on classic children’s literature.

THESE CLASSIC CHILDREN’S BOOKS ARE COVERED IN THE FREE COLLEGE COURSE

The college course, provided by Hillsdale College, includes lectures on these classic children’s literature selections:

  • Beauty and the Beast
  • The Snow Queen
  • Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
  • Aesop’s Fables
  • The Stories of Beatrix Potter and A.A. Milne (these are the authors of Peter Rabbit and Winnie the Pooh, respectively)
  • Treasure Island
  • The Wind in the Willows

The majority of the lectures are about 30 minutes in length. A student moves through the video lectures as his or her own pace, and may take a quiz upon completing all lectures.

IS THERE A WAY TO GET THE BOOKS FREE ALSO? (WHY, YES)

The books above may be purchased through Hillsdale, but many of them – perhaps all – are free at Project Gutenberg.

WHAT AGE GROUP SHOULD TAKE THIS LITERATURE COURSE?

Though this course was created for the college level learner, homeschoolers are smart, so I’m sure homeschooling high schoolers would excel at the course. It is also likely not beyond our middle school age or upper elementary learners, perhaps accompanied by a learning parent or an older sibling.

HOW TO ACCESS THIS FREE COLLEGE COURSE ON CHILDREN’S LITERATURE

To access this free children’s literature course, visit Hillsdale. You may need to sign up with email or log into a service to access the course.
