The McGuffey Readers were in American schools in the 1800s and early 1900s. They’re still popular today with many homeschoolers.  If you’d like to get the McGuffey Readers free, I’ll help you!  Though you won’t have a book to hold in your hand, you’ll have access to the content of the entire books.

How to Get the McGuffey Readers Free

Click on the links below, and you’ll go directly to the book in its digital format.  You will not have to register to view the book. You may view it online, print it out, or download it.  I like to send books to my Kindle through the email address that Amazon gave me for that purpose.

McGuffey’s Eclectic Reader, 1879, vol. 5

McGuffey’s Newly Revised Eclectic Reader, Volume 4, 1866

McGuffey’s Eclectic Primer, 1909

McGuffey’s New First Eclectic Reader: For Little Children, 1857

McGuffey’s New Second Eclectic Reader for Young Learners, 1939

McGuffey’s Third Eclectic Reader, Book 3, 1920

McGuffey’s New Fourth Eclectic Reader, Book 4, 1866

McGuffey’s New Fifth Eclectic Reader, Book 5, 1866

McGuffey’s Sixth Eclectic Reader, 1921

McGuffey’s New Eclectic Spelling-book, 1865

McGuffey’s High School Reader, 1889

 McGuffey’s New Juvenile Speaker, 1860

I’ll update this list as I find more of the McGuffey Readers free — there were so many published, that I’m trying to find the ones you’d want.  If you have a request, leave a comment and I’ll try to find that particular grade level or book title for you.

Balancing Homeschooling while Working From Home

At times, well-intentioned advice suggests that dedicating an entire day to homeschooling leaves no room for a job during regular hours. This is not necessarily so.
