Free Online Math Drills with Progress Reports

Our family’s college kids – and anyone who has had to figure out a calculation at a cash register – will tell us that it’s handy to be able to figure out basic math facts quickly.  It’s nice to be able to blurt out (or silently add up) the answers within seconds.  Knowing our math facts will not only save us money at the register, but knowing the facts quickly will also save college kids and their parents a lot of money as exams often have time limits!  I found free online math drills to help us out with our speed and memorization.

The free online math drills are at XtraMath, a non-profit that offers the free math drills for homeschool or classroom students.  You input the student’s names and choose the drill sets.  The child works through the drills after a placement test. And you’re then able to access progress reports for your students.

Free Online Math Drills

How to Use These Free Online Math Drills:

Here are the steps we took today as I reviewed these online math drills with my child:

  1. Sign up as a parent (you can use your Google or Facebook log in, or create a new sign in ID)
  2. Add a Child (no email or information needed, and you can give a nickname for your child.  I called mine “A” when testing the site) and select their grade.
  3. Click Sign In as Child from your parent account.
  4. The child will do a Placement Quiz (we did the first one — 3 sets of addition facts)
  5. The child will play “race the teacher, Mr. C.” for any missed facts (this felt long to my modern-attention-span child; it was about 50 questions)
  6. “Mr. C” will then say “That’s the end of today’s lesson,” and the child is done.
  7. You’ll see the results and progress in your teacher account.
  8. When your student signs in again, she’ll complete the next placement test, or continue with the next set of online math drills.

How to Access the Free Online Math Drills:

Learn more about the free math drills at XtraMath.  They have produced several videos explaining XtraMath, and how to use it in both school and homeschool classrooms.

Balancing Homeschooling while Working From Home

At times, well-intentioned advice suggests that dedicating an entire day to homeschooling leaves no room for a job during regular hours. This is not necessarily so. My husband and I owned a garden center for a few years while also homeschooling. After that, I had an online business while homeschooling. We did not “only work … Read More about Balancing Homeschooling and Working From Home – a Realistic Approach

making the transition from public school to homeschool

We did what you’re doing, or thinking about doing. Our eldest two went to public school in our little town, and it was just fine, we didn’t have any problems, but I missed them. Also, it was a hassle packing up the baby and toddler to commute the school kids from two different school locations, … Read More about Going from Public School to Home School? Here’s My Advice
