This Day in US History : Free Daily Lessons

civics· history· subjects

28 Feb

Over the past few years, I’ve learned so much through the free daily lessons on This Day in US History from researcher Tara Ross.  Her lessons have given our family much to discuss and debate.  The lessons cause us to think about the who, the why, the what that created our United States of America. Since these free history lessons have been such a value to our homeschooling family, I thought I’d share them with yours as well.

The lessons, or stories, on This Day in History are deeply researched

Tara Ross is a “constitutionalist,” and she is so thorough in her research that she often adds a disclaimer and alternative historian opinions when a story cannot be positively verified.  She covers topics from the Revolutionary Days to veteran stories to stories of U.S. space exploration.

How to access the This Day in US History lessons:

Each day, look for a new post on This Day in History. See the Categories or Archives for older posts. My favorites are the history lessons from the Revolutionary War.  I especially like the lessons that are about someone who is not famous.

Even if you’re not from America, you can use them in your homeschool when you study world history. We’d love to learn more about your country, too — do you have a favorite source to share? If so, let us know in the comments!

Freely Educate is written for those, like our family, who don't want the box. There are many places for "box-thinkers" to go. This place is for those who think outside the box. I hope to give you affirmation and advice on bravely choosing to educate creatively and individually. - Lori Seaborg
