Subjects like chemistry are often daunting for us homeschoolers to teach. It’s easier when we use hands-on materials. Knowing this, MIT has created three free science lesson plans using Lego building blocks. Each lesson takes about 2-4 hours, and is suggested for ages 11 and up.
Chose from these 3 free chemistry lesson plans:
The LEGO Chemical Reactions lesson introduces students to molecules, atoms, chemical notation, and chemical compounds (or reinforces these concepts) through an engaging hands-on wet lab, and LEGO models of atoms. View the lesson plan, teacher’s guide, student worksheets on Lego Chemical Reactions
The LEGO Photosynthesis lesson has students “construct a glucose molecule, simply by rearranging the atoms of carbon dioxide and water. They can go on to make chains of starch and cellulose.” View the LEGO & MIT lesson plan on Photosynthesis.
In Understanding Air, students will use “LEGO bricks as atoms to build a model of air and then combust fuel models to produce additional carbon dioxide and air pollutants.” View the lesson plan on Understanding Air here.

That is super cool! Yay, Legos!
