Here’s a readers’ favorite!

Free 900-page Unit Study & Lapbook Project for The Book of VirtuesHave you ever heard of the Book of Virtues by former U.S. Secretary of Education, William Bennett?  It was published in 1993, but is on its way to becoming a classic, probably because it is made up of classics.  “A Treasury of Great Moral Stories,” the Book of Virtues contains stories written centuries ago, from Biblical stories to political speeches and many stories from literature.

Today’s free educational find isn’t the Book of Virtues.  You’ll have to buy the book to go along with today’s freebie, which is a 992 page (!) ebook on The Book of Virtues that contains a daily schedule and many worksheets.  The Book of Virtues Project, created by a homeschooling mom for her own children, is for those who would like to learn from the book as a unit study or lapbook project.  Here are two screenshots from the free ebook:

How to Get the Free Unit Study:

Visit Shiver Academy.

To Download the Entire eBook:  Look in the right sidebar, where you’ll see a link to download the entire ebook directly, all 18.93 mb of it – 992 pages! (I downloaded my copy safely this way).

To Download the eBook in Sections:  Look in the right sidebar, where you may download the book in units, eg. Unit 1: Self Discipline

How to Get the Book of Virtues:  As I mentioned above, the actual book needed to complete this unit study is not free (the 900+ page unit study is!).  You could borrow it from your library for free.  Or, you may purchase the Book of Virtues from Amazon and help FreelyHomeschool.com in the process, as we get about 4% of your purchase price (at no cost to you). At Amazon, the paperback is currently around $16 and the hardcover is currently just over $22. At over 800 pages, it’s a pretty good deal.

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing the information on my Book of Virtues Project. My friend found this link and thought she would pass it on as it was awfully familiar. you did a great write up and I really appreciate you sharing this with others. We are getting close to 10,000 downloads!! I never thought it would be this popular. And it’s all because users have been so wonderful to pass it on. Thanks so much!!

    Kristin,
I created the study to be VERY flexible. There are things in there for Kindergarten all the way up to preparing for College (the activities literally help prepare for college). You just pick and choose what is appropriate to your child. And if you have some kids younger and some kids older, you can easily assign what you want each to do. It’s very flexible!!

One might also want to check their local thrift stores for the book. I picked up a copy for $3 about a year ago at Salvation Army.
