free online learning games
I don’t know how we’ve had Freely Educate for almost 5 years and not run into today’s free find before.  It’s a great one for math, geography, and language arts.

Yesterday, I told my 11 year old that I needed to find a good elementary math freebie to post, and he asked if I’ve posted about Arcademic Skill Builders.  I have, but not in a while.  He told me they have a bunch of new games since we went there last.  The games are created especially for elementary ages, although I’d put my middle schooler or high schooler on here to brush up in a weak area!  Do you remember Timez Attack, a fun video game that is no longer available (sadly) for homeschools and individuals? These arcade games are like Timez Attack; not quite as video-gamey, but just as fun and even more competitive. This one is a family favorite.

Arcademic Skill Builders are “online educational video games that offer a powerful approach to learning basic math, language arts, vocabulary, and thinking skills,” according to the site publishers.

Through video games and competition, students will practice concepts such as spelling and multiplication, among others.  I played in a jet ski addition game against the “computer” as well as a racing car multiplication game.  Other games include spelling, vowel and verb games, among others, for language arts and capitals and country games for geography.

The site holds safety above all:  your child may create a username if as long as its a name the program considers safe, or use the name provided, but even if he or she decides to compete with others across the internet, he may not chat with the other users.

How to Play these Free Online Learning Games:

Visit Arcademic Skill Builders (use the blue menu bar in the middle of the page to view the other categories)

Good Pages to Start:

  • Standards
  • Teacher Manual
  • Description of the Games

For Elementary Students (K-6th, although I’d put my middle schooler or high schooler on here to brush up on a weak area!)

    This is an AWESOME find!
The best part IMHO is that it is compatible with the Wii internet!
    Sooooo cool!

It’s funny- my kids have played on this site many many times and yet I just ‘realized’ it was there also!

I recently did a review on my blog about this site. My almost 12 year old son uses it on the wii and loves doing it that way. We are trying to use more technology with his lessons (we homeschool) and this is a great way to do it!

How cool that it is Wii internet compatible. I didn’t even know there was such a thing. Are there other sites that you know of that are Wii compatible as well?

I haven't found them yet, but I'll definitely keep looking.  Let me know if you find any, too.

Wow! Thanks for the link. We played jet ski and my 2nd grader went alot faster with her addition facts than she does with flash cards.

My kids prefer http://fun4thebrain.com/ for math practice, including multiplication. And there is no login required.
