Here’s an Idea for Keeping the Kids Busy this Summer

thoughts from my homeschool

16 May

If your kids are like mine, they are not averse to spending too much time in front of the TV, Wii and XBox all Summer (imagine those things being at all interesting to kids!)  Last Summer, I created a chart for  the kids.  I told them they need to spend 30 minutes doing each of these each day.

Spend 30 minutes doing…

  • Something educational on the computer
  • Something that makes you move
  • Something that you can make or do (a project)
  • Something that you can write or read

“Something educational on the computer” included any of the highlighted sites in this Activities & Games category.

What are your ideas for keeping the kids busy on Summer break?

LOVE this idea! Was just putting pen to paper brainstorming a very loose, yet structured summer routine for the kids. Normally we school in the summer but this year is our first year in a neighborhood full of kids so we are adjusting our schedule to coincide more with public school friends. Love that this gives them choice yet boundaries! Brilliant.
On a side note, just found your blog today thanks to pinterest! Added you to my Free Homeschool Resources on my blog!

A good site I recently discovered for free learning fun is called ZooWhiz (www.zoowhiz.com). It’s similar to Webkinz or Reading Eggs, in that they play games or do activities to build a zoo. The activities are educational – math, language, etc. And the best part is it’s FREE!
