I’ve only visited the exhibitor hall for one convention. It was years ago, before we started homeschooling, and I was overwhelmed with the choices. It’s funny – something that caught my eye then, we’re now using as our main curriculum – 8 years later! I’d love to go and take some workshops!

I’ve been to the convention in Ohio. It was awesome but a little overwhelming. My advice to newbie’s is take a notebook and wear a good pair of walking shoes. I would also recommend going for more than one day. I was only able to spend a day there and it was not enough time. I would love to be able to go again, it is such an encouragement to be around other homeschoolers!

I’ve always wanted to go to a convention, but haven’t been able to swing it financially. We’re on our third year, considering returning to private school. I’d love to visit a convention to become re-energized and re-motivated. Homeschooling is definitely a fulltime lifestyle and I look at conventions as necessary continuing education!

We’ve been homeschooling for 7 years, and my oldest made the leap into homeschooling high school this year. I’ve never had the opportunity to attend a homeschool convention, so it would be awesome to win. I find, now more than ever, a need to see curriculum before I invest. I’d love to have the chance to attend the seminars and meet those who inspired me to take this journey in the first place, especially Susan Wise Bauer.

This is our 5th year of homeschooling and we have never been able to afford to go to a homeschooling convention. We live on my husbands disability SS. I don’t have an income. We make just enough to pay bills and thats it. Any extra a dollar at a time, goes to summer camp and buying used curriculum piece by piece off of ebay. (No way could I afford anything new. I will have a Jr. High student and a High School student next year. I am not sure what I would really like as far as workshops go. I guess my main concern at this point is making sure I raise my children in the love of Christ and making sure I have everything I need for the upcoming preparations for college. Memphis would be where we would like to go if by some miraclulous chance we were to win. 🙂

I have only been to one in Indianapolis about 5 years ago. It can certainly be overwhelming, but it is so nice to get to speak with the curriculum reps and to hear the different speakers. The one bit of advice I can think of would be to wear comfortable shoes, and carry a BIG tote bag! 🙂

I have been to the local convention twice. My biggest recommendation is, don’t go alone. I love to go with my hubby, but if he couldn’t go to a convention with me I would go with a homeschooling friend. It is great to have someone to bounce ideas off of, enjoy meals with and just enjoy each others company while exploring the convention. Bonus: if you take your hubby, he can lug around everything you buy 🙂

Make a list of the things you need before you leave home. Check out the curriculum thats being sold in the vendor halls, but only purchase whats on your list. If you see something you are interested in, but wasn’t on your original list, write it down and save it to purchase next year.

My advice would be think for a while before buying books and curriculum. Talk to friends or take a few minutes to get online somewhere to check reviews. After listening to great speakers that they always have you need to make sure that you will purchase items that will be effective in your own home school. Not only keep your children’s personalities in mind but also your own personality and teaching style. If you have something that does not work for either parent or child you will have a difficult time being enjoying your home school journey.

I’ve attended our state convention every year for 15 years. Last year, I was pretty much done. Our state group has become too narrow. I am THRILLED that GHC is coming to our area and really hope to go. Winning the tickets would be a huge blessing!

To a newbie, I would say, remember you know your child, your family, your lifestyle, better than anyone else. Keep that in mind when listening to speakers and looking at homeschool products. Try to implement ideas and curriculum that do not come naturally to your family is always counterproductive.

I was at a homeschool convention years ago and was utterly overwhelmed by the overload of information. I am a bit more seasoned now and have a better idea of not only my own identity and teaching style, but also that of each of my six children and their own learning styles. I would love to go and participate in workshops, as that is one thing I’ve never gotten to try.

I have homeschooled for 15 years but still find it valuable to get inspired and encouraged at the conventions. This will be the first time GHC will be nearby so I am looking forward to attending.

My family homeschools our two children on a multi-generational level with my husband teaching our son and my daughter’s teacher is her grandmother!! So a trip to a convention would be wonderful for us all and an experience we have never had 😉

I would recommend taking a notebook & writing down whatever homeschool materials you like . Get back home 7 go over them online & have time to really see what you NEED. They all look wonderful at the convention.Don’t take a credit or debit card , only as much cash as you know for certain you can spend. people spend hundreds & close to thousands at these conventions. Money is flowing wildly.
