I just spent some time with our 9th grader, playing Hig Pigs.  Just saying that name makes me smile, but playing it with him was even better.  We had to think of two one-syllable words to describe a phrase, such as "wonderful dinnerware.*"  Can you think of that one?

There are many other engaging vocabulary games on the Vocabulary is Fun site, for Kindergarten through 12th graders.

The vocabulary games include an online word search, an online crossword puzzle, and hangman online (our version is called HangMouse). Users choose the vocabulary list that the online word game will use in the word game. The vocabulary games are popular for use on smart boards for word games to build vocabulary skills in classrooms.

The games cover these vocabulary concepts: analogy, antonym, compound words, context, contractions, foreign language, homophone, syllables, idioms, oxymorons, parts of speech, prefixes, root words, suffixes, synonyms, and word play.
