Most of you probably don’t know that I grew up on a little island in the South Pacific.  That experience molded me and gave me a world perspective that I want to pass onto our children.  I’m quite serious when I tell our teenagers they will not earn their high school diploma until they have traveled to a developing country.

I’m not sure yet how we will make that trip happen. There are so many options!  One of our options is for the teens to go to Brazil with their grandparents, who visit the country nearly every Summer. Another option is to go with a teen volunteer abroad program, such as Global Leadership Adventures.

I was recently introduced to Global Leadership Adventures and their summer volunteer programs. High school students may join a group of other students to travel abroad for teen summer community service, hands-on learing, and immersion in a culture unlike their own.

Students learn about the country they visit, including that country’s wildlife, people, culture, and environment.  The teens also learn how that country handles poverty and politics, and other political-economic issues.  Emphasis is on community service.  Weekends are reserved for touring cultural and historical locations.

Available trips are to Africa, Latin America, The Galapagos Islands, the Caribbean, China, India and Bali. Applications for summer programs are received through May.

For a free catalog of available opportunities visit Global Leadership Adventures.

If you had the money and they had the time, would you consider sending your teens abroad for a summer program?

This is a compensated post for Global Leadership Adventures (it helps pay the bills, so we can find you more freebies!).  I have not yet used their services, so this is not a recommendation, but rather a suggestion for your research. ~ Lori

Freely Educate is written for those, like our family, who don't want the box. There are many places for "box-thinkers" to go. This place is for those who think outside the box. I hope to give you affirmation and advice on bravely choosing to educate creatively and individually. - Lori Seaborg
