Giveaway from All About Spelling: A FULL Spelling Curriculum! (closed)

Yay!  All About Spelling wants to do our first giveaway of 2011:

All About Spelling isn’t a – yawn! – workbook method of learning spelling.   Instead, All About Spelling is a hand-on spelling program that will interest every kid in your bunch, as it has ours…

Using All About Spelling in our schoolroom

The All About Spelling program is logical and organized enough for even me to figure out and use easily with children at four different levels (grades 8, 6, 4, and 1).  The system uses letter tiles (pictured above) and flashcards to teach spelling.

Our family receives all sorts of educational products to possibly review for Freely Educate, and while we only post reviews of products that we think are good, we don’t always keep the products to use in our own little school. All About Spelling, however, definitely will be staying at home in our schoolroom.  It is solving our problem of poor spellers (they are so very phonetic!) while making the effort as painless as possible for the teacher (me).

Here is a little more about the All About Spelling program from the publishers:

“All About Spelling is your clear action plan for teaching spelling. Designed for effective, stress free teaching, the series progresses in a logical, sequential order. Through direct instruction, students learn exactly what they need to know in order to spell well.

The All About Spelling program brings together three pathways to learning – auditory (hearing), visual (seeing), and kinesthetic (touching).  This multisensory approach, combined with a built-in review system and reinforcement activities, ensures that students retain what they learn and understand how to apply it in practical situations.”

Go to the All About Spelling site to learn more about the program and to order a free report called, “The 20 Best Tips for Teaching Spelling.”

We want to give away a set of All About Spelling’s  Level One to one of you.

The winner’s package will include:

  • AAS Level One set (book and student Material Packet)
  •  Letter Tiles
  • Phonogram Audio CD-ROM

All of that will be sent to one of you, shipped free, of course!  (value: $56.90 and free s/h)

A Note I wrote in 2009:  Since we are just now starting out with All About Spelling, we started even our big 13yo 7th grader in Level One.  He’s whizzing through it, as he should, but the reinforcement of the basics is good for him as well as for his 11yo, 5th grade sister.  Our 8yo (3rd grader) also is doing Level One, at a much slower pace.

About spelling. Well, I might say “don’t get me started,” but you’ve already opened that can of worms. I am only homeschooling my 8th grader, I have two others in school. My first grade teacher isn’t given spelling lists. They want spelling to be more “intuitive”, so the kids don’t get a list to study. Instead, there might be any random word show up on their test…any word that has “come up” in class. The words “through” and “tough” were some of the early tested words. My first grader is used to getting “D’s” and “F’s” on her tests. I can’t help her, since the word list is not ever revealed. All this to say, I would love to win this spelling curriculum. It would come in so handy, as I am planning on teaching her spelling at home, since she is not taught it at school.

I found the articled titled “How to Correct Spelling Mistakes” helpful. In it, I found ideas for helping my students correct their own spelling mistakes. Some of their mistakes seem like they should be so obvious to them, in my opinion, but they don’t seem to catch their own mistakes. I gleened some good ideas to helping remedy this frustration.

Spelling has been especially challenging to teach to my son who is autistic. He is high functioning but all the changing spelling rules really throw him. He gets frustrated which makes spelling a very frustrating subject at our house. This looks like a very interestin program. I am definitely doing some more research about this. Thank you for the information, and the chance to win one! Really awesome! I just love your blog, it has been so incredibily helpful! Thank you so much!

The most frustrating thing to me about teaching spelling is that I have a daughter who is dyslexic and it is very difficult to determine whether or not she is grasping the concept.

WOW, we would love this as spelling is so difficult for my oldest who has dyslexia. He is very tactile and visual and this would be a great thing for him.

REALLY hoping we get one, because we can’t afford a darn thing that would really help my kids, it seems. There’s just too much frustration for her and she doesn’t enjoy it at all anymore. We need help. Wish they took food stamps for it! Got plenty of those!
