Giveaway! Friendly Chemistry Student & Teacher Curriculum Set

giveaways· sponsors

20 Jan

Friendly Chemistry has recently edited & updated their curriculum.  To celebrate, they want to send a full curriculum set to one of you!

After looking through a Friendly Chemistry textbook, you’ll soon realize that, hmm, chemistry is a little more interesting than you first thought.  Give it a longer look and you’ll find yourself surprisingly absorbed in elements and molecules.  Then…gather some students,  teach a Friendly Chemistry lesson and you’ll see that chemistry is not only fun, but the kids are asking to have another chemistry class!

Friendlychem

The author, Joey Hajda, describes Friendly Chemistry  like this:

“Friendly Chemistry was written using simple language and a host of analogies to make learning (and teaching!) chemistry easy.  We believe that the chemistry concepts presented in Friendly Chemistry are NOT watered-down.  The concepts are just explained in ways that are readily understood by most learners.  Coupled with these explanations is a host of teaching aids, labs and games which makes the learning concrete and multi-sensory.  Students find the course fun and painless.  Parents often comment, ‘I wish I had had this when I was taking chemistry.   Now it all makes so much sense!'”

Visit the Friendly Chemistry site for answers to questions about teaching the program in your homeschool or co-op or for answers to using the program in private or public schools.

Guess what? The publishers want to offer one of you a free set of Friendly Chemistry curriculum, which includes:

  • Student text
  • Teacher text
  • Manipulative text (a 74 page booklet to be disassembled by the end user)

Current retail cost is $49.99 for the student edition and $24.99 for each volume of the Teacher’s edition (Two volume set).  The manipulative set retails for $9.99.  Total retail value:  $109.96

I loved Chemistry so much in college that I minored in it! Yet, I am failing to find the passion I had then in teaching my son Biology/Chem:(

What frustrates me most about teaching science is when the materials treat science like magic by failing to provide an adequate explanation of whatever experiment we’ve just performed.

I want one! We briefly did chemistry one year and I was intimidated by the lab work..so we cut it short. Have a nice periodic table of elements wall poster as a memoir – lol My son wants to do Chemistry again, and I am ALWAYS on the lookout for new science curriculum to try out. So this is perfect timing – hopefully!

If only every subject could be taught under the guise of Chemistry….It’s the only subject my son doesn’t balk at because there is always the hope that something with explode!
I think we’ve done every Steve Spangler science experiment there is but I’m not confident in teaching concepts beyond that.

I would love this! And the most frustrating thing about teaching science is the fact that I despised science in school. After school and even now, I love learning about science on my own, but in school it was horrible. So I want to make sure my kids won’t be turned off science like I was in school. Friendly Chemistry sounds like exactly what we’ll need. 🙂

My frustration about Science, is…it’s just not easy. If we buy a kit, it has to be unpacked and set up before we can begin – unlike a textbook that can just be opened, or a lapbooking session where I can plop a tray full of markers and scissors and glue and let the kids begin. I’ve never found a format that I like. We are participating in a co-op now with 2 other families. Each mom takes up to 12 hours of prep and gathering materials to teach 6 hours worth of class time. At least we give each other a break this way.
