This Week’s December Historical Events & Holidays to Teach

general

15 Dec

Here is Part II of the December events that happened in history between December 16th-18th.  Use the links below for lesson plans and project ideas to help you teach these important holidays & events to your students:

Boston
December 16th:

  • Boston Tea Party:  John Adams wrote of the dumping of the tea into the Boston Harbor: "There is a dignity, a majesty, a sublimity, in this last effort of the patriots that I greatly admire."

                Read about the event at the Boston Tea Party Historical Society site

                Print out this colorful, comic-style poster

  •  Ludwig Von Beethoven, a famous composer, was born in 1770.

                 Listen to his music and read more about Beethoven at Classics for Kids (it's a wonderful site for teaching children music appreciation, by the way)

December 17th:

  • The Wright Brothers first flew at Kitty Hawk in 1903.

                See the articles, interactives and slide shows from NOVA

                Take this free aviation course from NASA for high schoolers

                or these aviation lesson plans for K-8th graders.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you know of any historical events (from any country) that occurred between December 12-18, please share them in the comments section.   And please let us know if you find good lesson plans, history links, or tutorials for the above holidays.
Freely Educate is written for those, like our family, who don't want the box. There are many places for "box-thinkers" to go. This place is for those who think outside the box. I hope to give you affirmation and advice on bravely choosing to educate creatively and individually. - Lori Seaborg
