Here are some of the historical events you may want to cover this coming week with your students:
- November 28th:
Today is Samuel Clemen's birthday. We know him better as Mark Twain. He wrote two of my favorite books:
(Those are the unabridged copies we own; they make such great read alouds!)
You can read Mark Twain's books online for free, or you can get his books for free on your Kindle or other e-reader. Go here to view the Mark Twain books available on the Kindle.
- December 1st:
Hanukkah begins at sunset. Even if you don't celebrate Hanukkah, this is a wonderful time to learn about the holiday with your children. You could do a unit study on Hanukkah for the duration of the eight-day holiday. History.com is a good place to start.
This is also Rosa Parks' Day. 55 years ago, Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger. Read more about what happened at Scholastic, where your students can read the history, do suggested learning activities, and read interviews with Rosa Parks.
